Earth911 Inspiration: Not What America Wants

It is a very strange time in the United States, when the newly elected President says, “We’re going to drill, baby, drill and do all of the things that we wanted to,” despite the majority of Americans disagreeing with him. In late 2024, the Pew Research Center found that 64% of Americans already reported that their community is adversely impacted by climate change and 69% of respondents to the same poll said business is not doing enough to reduce their environmental impact. Yet, in the first few months of 2025, after an historically narrow election victory, the Trump Administration has gutted environmental protections and is attempting to make climate-related language and investments not quite illegal but certainly less attractive to pursue. Right now, today, in this 11th hour as we pass the precipice of 1.5C warming, we need to be talking more.

Pew also found that 88% of Democrats and 73% of Republicans expressed frustration with the level of political disagreement over climate change—the only small-d democratic response to that is, again, more conversation. A vibrant polity is fueled by discussion, not existential attacks of any outpost of climate awareness.
