1. The One-Gallon Guessing Game

Did you know a one-gallon container can hold between 800 and 2,000 cigarette butts? That’s a vast range, so let’s get specific! If you collect in a:

• Loosely packed gallon container: Expect to collect around 800–1,200 butts.
• Densely packed one-gallon containers can hold between 1,500 and 2,000 butts.

2. The 20-Second Scoop Method

Cigarette butts tend to cluster in certain areas—near benches, on sidewalks, and around parking lots. Try this:

• Spend 20 seconds picking up butts in a small area.
• Count how many you grab.
• Estimate how many similar “hotspots” are in your cleanup zone.

Multiply your results by the number of similar areas and boom, you have a solid estimate of the total number collected.

3. The Pocket Challenge
